I write on behalf of members, trustees, donors, and staff at the at the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app (ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app) when I express my deep sadness at the loss of a great friend and colleague, William H. "Bill" Harrison. Bill was a committed ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app Board Member from 2003 to 2018, where he was instrumental in guiding the growth of the organization, and he was an enthusiastic founding member of the Southeast Chapter. Following his retirement from the Board, he elected to focus solely on his main priority with the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app—our education programs—and remained a member of the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app Committee until his passing. During his time with the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app, Bill contributed immeasurably to many initiatives, including Drawing Tours, the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app Forum, and most recently, the Bunny Mellon Landscape Design Prize. Bill valued education above all, and was dedicated to supporting students in the field and investing in the next generation. In 2018, the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app created the William H. Harrison Scholarship at the Intensive in Classical Architecture: New York to acknowledge his unparalleled commitment to the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app.
Bill established in 1991 after operating his own construction company for 12 years. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, where he also served as a member of the Advisory Board in recent years. After graduating, he traveled throughout Europe and the Americas focusing on architecture, including visiting every Italian villa and palace designed by Andrea Palladio. Bill loved the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app and he made an impact on everyone he came in contact with through his humility, dedication, and kindness.
All those who knew Bill were keenly aware of the enthusiasm and vigor he devoted to the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app's core mission of education, and we seek to live up to his sense of vision in all that we do. We have all lost an incredible talent, and great source of inspiration, and a true friend.
