On June 14, the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app will welcome students from across the country to the seventh annual Summer Studio in Classical Architecture (SSCA).
The four-week program, which takes place at the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app’s headquarters and at iconic landmarks throughout New York City, introduces students pursuing careers in architecture and its allied fields to classical architecture as a living language.
Over four weeks the program demystifies the elements, forms, techniques, and strategies of classical composition through an immersion in the classical orders; proportion; the literature of classical design; architectural wash rendering; and the study of precedents through analytical and measured drawing.
The program culminates in a design charette for a new classical building which gives students an opportunity to explore everything from the granular level of classical detail, to methods for composing classical elevations, to the design of a setting for a classical building within a larger landscape and urban context.
Instructors and assistants will be joining the SSCA teaching team from ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app Chapters across the country for this year’s program. We are especially thrilled to have the participation of alumni of past ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app University Workshops, Intensives, and SSCA programs.
The SSCA team looks forward to helping students build a practical knowledge of the classical language and to discover some of the universal aesthetic and tectonic ideas embedded in the classical tradition that are shared across all design and building.
The ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app expresses gratitude to and for their sponsorship of this year’s program.
