Hosted by the Ҵýapp Ohio Lake Erie Chapter
Join us for any individual or all of our regular third-Thursday readings in the literature of classical architecture as we consider Alberti's On the Art of Building of 1452. Leon Battista Alberti was an Italian Renaissance humanist, author, and architect. He is widely recognized as an extraordinary person, the prototypical “Renaissance Man.” His work was the first architectural treatise written in the Italian Renaissance and was inspired by Vitruvius' Ten Books of Architecture. Like Vitruvius, Alberti examined a wide range of subjects from climate settings and town planning, to engineering and aesthetics. We will read excerpts from his canon, look at his architecture and reference Vitruvius and other architectural writers. Refreshments served.
